Remote Area
Broadcasting Services
The Remote Area Broadcast (RABS) digital satellite services is
broadcast from the OPTUS C1
satellite .. The service
will replace the old HACBSS/RCTS system that has served several thousand
installations in rural and remote communities throughout Australia. RABS
comprises of ABC (five time zones), SBS (in SE and NE), and the four
commercial broadcasters Imparja (Central), Seven Central (NE), Golden West and
WIN West (Western). As well as RABS there will be a number of other
services on Aurora. Authorisation to receive any service on Aurora will be via
an addressable smart card.
Aurora uses a national beam, so all of the previous spot beam services will
technically be available over the whole country.
The ABC
& SBS TV broadcast
streams as well as a selection of ABC&
SBS radio channels. It will only be possible
to view the commercial channels within your
area with approval from the ABA or Direct From the service provider. There are a
few form to be filled out.
